Kachra Smadhan Mahotsav, a flagship programme of district administration was organised on 22 April 2018 – Kachra Smadhan Mahotsav with much fanfare starting with a marathon run of 5 km on Hindon Elevated Road in which around 6,000 school children and 2,000 people participated. DM Ghaziabad, Ritu Maheshwari said that this run will sensitise the young students and people about the importance of waste recycling and management. Ghaziabad MP & Union Minister, Gen. VK Singh (retd) was the chief guest.
IPEM college students with staff participated in this special Mahotsav and showed their creativity in the exhibition.
Thereafter, VK Singh inaugurated the Mahotsav at Ramlila Ground in Kavi Nagar. He praised the DM for the event and said the concept of Best of Waste should be emulated by other districts also and should serve as an example for future such events. Singh added that it was important that people become aware of waste disposal and management so that the city remains green and clean.
DM Ritu Maheshwari said that with ‘waste’ in focus this Mahotsav will instil awareness among the people without whom no waste management and recycling programme can be undertaken. She said that various stalls, exhibitions and workshops will help the visitors hone their knowledge on various aspects of waste management and recycling that they can further put to use practically. She added that it had been the aim of GDA, Nagar Nigam and the administration to clean up the city and this event was a step in that direction.
Maheshwari also thanked the NGOs, RWAs, self-help groups, and institutions that had lent a helping hand to make the event a success.
Around 112 stalls have been put up at the Kachra Mahotsav. Apart from the DM, SSP Ghaziabad, Vaibhav Krishna, ADMs Sunil Singh & Gyanendra Singh, CDO Ramesh Ranjan, Municipal Commissioner, CP Singh and MLA Manju Siwach and other district officials were present on the occasion.
